How Migraines Affect The Nervous System

If you have never experienced a migraine attack before, then you’re one of the lucky few. This is because migraine is one of the most common ailments in the world.

Sufferers experience pain lasting for many hours and days, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, light and sound sensitivity, numbness, etc. The pains associated with migraines can be so debilitating that it can leave you incapacitated.

How Migraines Affect The Nervous System

The nervous system is a complex network responsible for coordinating information between different parts of the body.

The nervous system is made up of the central and the peripheral nervous systems comprising the brain, spinal cord, and nerve fibers that connect different parts of the body.

The functions of the nervous system include the release of hormones, control of the body’s involuntary process, control of the digestive system, etc.

You’re more likely to suffer from migraines if you spend hours hunched over a computer, or if you’ve been involved in an automobile, sports-related or domestic accident. These events can force the neck vertebrae out of alignment, and cause nervous system disorders.

An injury in the C1 and C2 vertebrae can cause irritations in the brainstem and pains in the head region. It can also cause the nervous system to send wrong signals, resulting in migraines.

Upper Cervical Care and Migraines

Upper cervical chiropractors know that misalignments irritate and put pressure on the adjoining vertebrae which causes migraines.

When a sufferer suspects he/she has a migraine, an upper cervical chiropractor first examines to see if there is a misalignment in the spine.

If any misalignment is discovered, the specific chiropractor will administer chiropractic adjustments to realign the spine and restore the nervous system function.

In realigning the spine, upper cervical chiropractors employ the highest standards of safety as there is no cracking or popping of bones and vertebrae.
