What Are The Main Functions Of The Immune System?

Various cells and proteins make up the body’s immune system. They collaborate to protect and defend the body from harmful germs, viruses, parasites, and other invading elements.

A weak immune system is susceptible to infections and diseases. A strong immune system boosts the overall function of the body.

Key Functions of the Immune System

General Protection

The immune system functions as a natural protection and barrier to harmful substances that enter the body. It can recognize and attack harmful foreign substances in the body.

Active Protection

The immune system also helps the body adapt to several infections and diseases around the environment.

Passive Protection

The immune system also offers passive immunity that works for only a short period.

External Barrier to Infection

The complex structure that makes up the immune system works in stages starting from the initial attack. The first layer of the immune system prevents harmful substances from entering the body.

The skin is usually our first contact with harmful substances. The immune system produces chemicals in the skin and mucous membranes that destroy invaders.

Internal Protection from Infection

Sometimes, some infectious agents succeed in getting into the body. The immune system produces cells that attack and destroy the infectious agents and stop them from replicating.

Chiropractic Care and Your Immune System

For the immune system to function effectively, it must be in optimum health. One of the things that can affect the ability of your immune system to function correctly is an upper cervical misalignment.

Two bones connect your head and neck. A misalignment of these vertebrae can affect your brain’s ability to function efficiently. Upper cervical trauma makes it difficult for the immune system to get signals from the central nervous system. This reduces the immune system.

A growing body of evidence has shown that upper cervical care is effective in the restoration of the nervous system and the improvement of the immune system.

During the first session of chiropractic care, the specific chiropractor conducts diagnostic tests using digital x-ray and thermal imaging devices. The purpose of these tests is to determine if you’ll benefit from upper cervical care. If the results show that there’s a misalignment, chiropractic adjustments will be administered.

This restores the nervous system function and promotes communication between the nervous system and the immune system.

Besides upper cervical care, you can boost your immune system through exercise, healthy diets, and sleep. A combination of all these will significantly improve your body’s ability to resist and recover from diseases.
